Holguín: A Memorable Stay at Playa Pesquero Hotel

Turismo

During our August escape to Holguín, we left Montreal on a direct Air Transat flight, a journey lasting 3 hours and 45 minutes. The Playa Pesquero Hotel, operated by the Gaviota Group , is just an hour’s drive from Holguín airport.

Holguín, nestled in the eastern part of Cuba, is a hidden gem where the sun shines brilliantly, bathing the city in a warm and constant glow. Temperatures consistently average around 32 degrees Celsius, inviting you to dive into the tropical allure of this enchanting region.

As soon as we stepped into the hotel, the warm and authentic ambiance transported us to another time. The lobby, featuring iconic elements such as a gondola, an old locomotive symbolizing Cuba’s rich industrial heritage once used for sugar cane transportation, and bronze statues, including one of “El Guayabero” (Faustino Oramas) , offers an invitation to a journey through time in which tradition and modernity blend harmoniously.

Breathtaking Beaches

The beaches of Holguín are stunningly beautiful. The turquoise water, so clear that it seems unreal, extends before you, sheltered by coral formations that add a touch of magic to this idyllic landscape. Vibrant vegetation and golden sand complete this perfect picture, contrasting beautifully with the crystalline blue of the sea.

Exploring the rocky shores of the beach is an adventure. Each dive reveals a vibrant and colorful underwater world, populated with corals and fishes in a variety of colours. For snorkeling enthusiasts, it is a true paradise. Swimming among aguijons, juyamas, mojarras, and Isabelitas is a fascinating experience where nature displays its full splendor.

For me, swimming in these crystal-clear waters is an unforgettable experience. The shades of blue and green blend together with captivating softness. I was amazed by the six distinct hues the water displayed, from sky blue to turquoise and even diamond green. The calmness of the sea invites relaxation and physical well-being. A pure moment of tranquility on one of Cuba's most beautiful beaches.

The culinary offerings are as diverse as they are delicious, with seven restaurants, including a buffet and five specialty restaurants, serving a variety of cuisines, from Caribbean and Cuban flavors to Italian and international dishes.

I invite you to take a tour of the hotel by clicking on the video link below. See for yourself all that Playa Pesquero Hotel has to offer:

Cuban Afternoon

One of the most traditional attractions offered by the hotel is the Cuban Afternoon, during which tourists can witness the cooking of a pig in the traditional Cuban style. The pig, which can weigh up to 70 kilograms, is spitted between two trees and roasted over charcoal, with someone turning it continuously for 6 to 7 hours to ensure perfect cooking.

Additionally, to animate the afternoon, musicians will have you dancing to salsa rhythms and teach you how to dance for your entertainment. You can also explore the art of Cuban crafts and the preparation of Cuban coffee and mojitos during a festive afternoon hosted by Leo Hernández. An event not to be missed!
