Turismo

The Cuban Tourism Office in Toronto is co-sponsoring the tourism event titled “Experiences and Traditions,” aimed at tobacco enthusiasts, which will take place in the beautiful Jardines del Rey region, Cayo Coco, from October 23 to 25, 2024. Sponsored by the commercial company Caracol S.A., the event is organized by La Casa del Habano “El Exquisito,” located at the Meliá Costa Rey hotel in Cayo Coco. Its primary goal is to offer experiences linked to the culture and syncretic roots representative of Cuban tradition.

Participants will enjoy pairings, tastings, competitions, and excursions in Cayo Coco, where sensations and flavors come together, sharing best practices and experiences in the world of Rum, Coffee, and Cigars. They will experience traditions, taste local cuisine, and explore the history, with art, nature, and folklore as distinctive features.

The Casa del Habano "El Exquisito" offers a wide variety of cigars

During our visit to the rum museum in Santiago de Cuba, cigar sommelier Yoandro Matos explained that a habano is a cigar exclusive to Cuba, which can only carry this name if produced under the Habanos S.A. seal and with leaves selected from designated origin areas. A habano consists of five types of leaves: tripa, seco, volado, ligero, capote, and capa. The first three contribute aroma, combustion, and strength, respectively, while habanos are classified into five strength levels, from mild to strong.

Additionally, the renowned master rum maker, Mrs. Noemí del Toro emphasized the importance of rum in Cuban culture, noting that it reflects a tradition of over 160 years. "Rum is the liquid flavor of Cuban identity," declared the master rum maker. Over the years, the best rum masters have come together to produce high-quality rums and pass this legacy on to new generations. It is a blend of wonderful bases that results in a product that people love.

“Immerse yourself in an exquisite selection of the finest habanos, guided by a passionate expert; savor the finest rums, meticulously paired to enhance each note of the cigar, and delight in freshly brewed coffee that will elevate your tasting experience to new heights,” added the Cuban Tourism Office.

The event will cover two main themes:

  • Cigars, Rum, and Coffee: “The Magical Triangle.” History, religiosity, and tradition with experiences to pair this triangle.
  • Pairings and Tastings: For pairing, how to find the perfect combination between two completely different products—Cuban cigars and rums. For tastings, the art of combining similar flavors, sensations, and aromas to enhance the qualities of the drink and the Habanos.
