Tropical Heaven and Luxury Await at Casa de Campo

Turismo

Our visit in Dominican Republic concluded by exploring the astonishing and luxurious Casa de Campo Resort and Villas  situated at la Romana, 15 minutes away from the Romana International Airport. Covering an impressive 7,000-hectares, this resort offers 257 hotel rooms and suites and over 50 rental villas, along with privately-owned properties within the domain. Tranquility and pleasure are guaranteed in this paradise on earth, with stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and the natural beauty crafted in this special place.

Our journey began at the luxurious Casa de Campo’s Premier Club, where personalized service and privacy define the experience from the moment of arrival. Check-in at the dedicated reception area, complete with an exclusive bar and lounge, set the tone for an amazing stay. Guests are provided with a 4-passenger golf cart, ensuring easy exploration of the expansive resort.

The Premier Junior Suite was an oasis of comfort and elegance. The spacious room featured a large queen bed dressed in soft cotton linens, perfect for a good night's sleep. A private balcony provided serene views complimented by a selection of artisanal coffees and teas. The suite's amenities included nightly turn-down service, custom pillows, and an aromatherapy menu. I particularly admired the automated lighting system, which not only added a touch of elegance but also promoted energy efficiency. It truly made me feel like royalty.

  • The SPA & Wellness Center: Our experience began with a deeply relaxing massage. The therapist's technique was perfect, applying medium pressure just as I prefer. Warm towels on my legs enhanced circulation, eased knee soreness, and left me feeling completely at ease. Following this, I immersed myself in the hydrothermal circuit, featuring a sauna, steam room, vitality pool, cold plunge, heated loungers, and an outdoor spa pool.

  • The Restaurants: The gastronomy at Casa de Campo is exceptional, offering 22 dining options that include gourmet restaurants, food trucks, and bars, ensuring there is something to satisfy every palate. Ten of them are in the hotel and the rest scattered throughout the estate. I rejoiced with the delicious Mediterranean-style dishes, enjoyed renowned Peruvian gastronomy like ceviche and tiradito dishes, and was delighted by local specialties.

  • The Shooting Center: It was my first-time experiencing shooting, and I was thrilled. The instructor was incredibly patient and reassuring, which gave me the confidence to give it a try. After taking the shot, I was amazed as my body vibrated in harmony with the shot's rhythm! Wow! The shooting center at Casa de Campo is one of the largest private shooting facilities globally, spanning 245 acres with 250 stations and a 110-foot tower that launches clays up to 45 yards into the sky!

  • Horseback Riding Tour: Upon arrival, you will find horses either in their stables or leisurely grazing nearby. Speaking with one of the cowboys, I learned that each horse responds to its assigned name. Some of them, like "Zambito," "Hierbabuena," "Duque", were among those we observed in the stable. The facility houses approximately 200 horses, providing ample opportunities to admire these magnificent animals up close.

Paradise Golf

Robert C. Birtel, Director of Golf Operations, warmly welcomed us to tour Casa de Campo's prestigious golf courses. He highlighted the resort's impressive 63 holes of championship golf, including the iconic Teeth of the Dog, a meticulously designed course along the Dominican coastline, perfect for golfers seeking a challenge in paradise.

Birtel also showcased the Links Golf Course, crafted by Pete Dye, which features wide fairways, challenging greens, and stunning Caribbean views. Spanning over 7,000 yards, it complements the Teeth of the Dog beautifully. Additionally, in 2002, the Dye Fore Golf Course  expanded the offerings with three unique nines—Chavon, Marina, and Lagos—each presenting distinct features, including cliffside holes and scenic views of the Chavon River and Marina.

Golf Learning Center

Located on 21 acres of lush grass, this facility provides practice greens for putting, chipping, and pitching, as well as unrestricted access to an outdoor range for full shots. According to Birtel, the center hosts family clinics and offers everything beginners need, even for those new to golf. “Every Friday night, they host a special event: family night golf party, inviting families to hit multicolor led golf balls into the night sky on the range”, added Birtel.

Discovering Altos de Chavón and Impressive Marina

Altos de Chavon is a city-like village located within Casa de Campo resort complex. Built in 1976, it is an astonishing replica of a 16th-century village in the Dominican Republic. It serves as a cultural center with artistic workshops, shops, restaurants, bars and an archaeological museum showcasing the fascinating local history. At its heart lies a Greek-style amphitheater with 5,000 seats, inaugurated in 1982 by Frank Sinatra with the "Concert for the Americas." Over the years, it has hosted numerous concerts and events featuring renowned artists such as Sting, Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, Gloria Estefan, Juan Luis Guerra and others. A visit here is a must-do.

The Marina is a seaside paradise inspired by charming Mediterranean seaside villages. Designed by Gianfranco Fini and Piero Giacosa, it caters to sport fishermen, yachting enthusiasts, and visitors alike. You can sail, snorkel, or embark on a charter boat adventure. With opportunities to catch a blue marlin, explore underwater realms, and visit nearby islands teeming with wildlife, the Marina promises endless unforgettable experiences.
